Oboist Mika Allison is a Chicago-based performer, music educator, and arts administrator with a focus on collaboration and community.
Mika has performed with groups in Chicago and throughout the Midwest including the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Lakeview Orchestra, Chicago Symphonic Winds, and Regali Winds. She currently holds the Second Oboe position in the West Michigan Symphony. Mika is a founding member of Aether Ensemble, a Chicago-based woodwind quintet.
As a music educator, Mika has worked with students from beginner level to adult students in a variety of settings, including with the Illinois Summer Youth Music’s Oboe and Bassoon Pre-College camp in Urbana, Illinois and the Eastern Music Camp at Eastern Illinois University. Mika maintains a private oboe studio in the Chicagoland area. Additionally, Mika is a teaching artist with Ravinia Festival’s Sistema Ravinia program in Waukegan, IL.
In an administrative role, Mika has worked with Chicago-based organizations such as Chicago Sinfonietta and International Beethoven Project, assisting in areas of development, event planning, and marketing. With Aether Ensemble, Mika works to establish community relationships by searching for suitable venues, programming concerts, and creating marketing materials.
Mika has attended DePaul University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Texas State University studying with Grace Hong, John Dee, and Ian Davidson.
